Enhancing Offshore Oil & Gas Operations with OpenText Solutions

Executive Summary

An offshore oil & gas exploration and production company, partnered with TerraLink to modernize its document control processes, enabling efficient collaboration and streamline data synchronization over the limited network bandwidth with remote well platforms. Leveraging OpenText and SAP solutions, TerraLink established a proof of concept (PoC) environment and built custom APIs to confirm data transmission and reception system capabilities.

Customer Business Challenges

The Company operates in a complex and highly regulated industry that demands rigorous safety, quality, and operational reporting. Managing documentation and data across multiple remote locations across a limited bandwidth network was causing delays in the operational reporting and analysis required to complete invoicing cycles. Timely access and accuracy of operational data drove the requirement for synchronized data access between the physical locations.
In addition, as the company expanded its digital capabilities, the limitations of its existing document management systems became apparent. Without a scalable platform, the Client struggled to implement the modern features needed for document management across locations, such as automated updates, efficient query handling, and reliable access to real-time data. A modernized environment was essential to streamline operations and effectively comply with regulatory standards.

TerraLink’s Contribution

TerraLink designed and implemented a proof of concept using OpenText Content Server Syndication, enabling the Client to test and evaluate offshore data and document file synchronization capabilities. By setting up a PoC environment for OTCS 23.4, TerraLink allowed stakeholders to test and review the capabilities and new features before a full rollout. Additionally, custom OpenText Server APIs were developed to support specific document operations, ensuring that the Client’s teams could upload, download, and query documents efficiently across geographically diverse locations.

Customer Business Outcomes

The PoC demonstrated successful data and document transmission and synchronization, allowing timely updates across the Company’s offshore and onshore locations and facilitating seamless collaboration among teams. This permitted the offshore staff to have real-time access to the latest documents, reducing risks associated with outdated information and enhancing compliance with company standards.
By establishing a scalable OTCS environment and custom APIs, TerraLink enabled the Company to test remote data transmission scenarios critical to its operations. This validation process proved the system capabilities for remote location data transmissions over limited network bandwidths, improved document control, boosted operational efficiency and supported the company’s goals for future platform modernization. TerraLink’s contributions set a solid foundation for the Client’s digital transformation across the onshore and offshore network.
